Microsoft folks have no social life

Who could have predicted? Me. Microsoft proves they don't get it once again. The Kin is dead. They consistently don't understand the social experience. I'm sure some focus group made them think this thing would sell, but I cant imagine why they think half a smartphone experience would be enough.... Then again, the 'social' experience of SharePoint as Microsoft creates it doesn't hit the mark either. Guess whether it's consumer or business side, Microsoft's product people aren't social enough to get it. I keep thinking when I see them come out with something new like this that they must know something I don't know. And then, once again, I find out they don't.

Think of microsoft as your dad's operating system, their forays into the 'youth' market have all lost money...

and sharepoint sucks (which is a technical term meaning it really sucks)

Sharepoint has done a lot to allow self-service for collaborative work as far as document management (where we mostly work instead of wikis or waves, unfortunately). It misses the mark so badly on how it manages consumption, interaction, notification, and community however. They still live on a planet where you supposedly know wherever you should be. They are still working on getting tagging right, when the world is in serendipitous networking mode, even in business. There's a whole blog entry or twelve in my head about that.

True, everyone is still producing their Word documents so Sharepoint does help offices deal with that reality.

Unfortunately that reality is very wasteful.

The office workers have to use it so they have no choice but to live with it. Our students have choices and they hate sharepoint so they don't use it unless forced to...
